SR Love Languages: Words of Affirmation
Wednesday Jul 28, 2021
Wednesday Jul 28, 2021
Peace and blessings, Tribe! Welcome back to the Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, giving the real in a world of fake!
Love is an attitude with appropriate behavior, and the attitude is “I’m here to enrich your life”. In this week’s episode, we continue our discussion about The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, by Gary Chapman. In his book, the author explains how individuals generally express and experience love in five distinct ways: physical touch, receiving gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation, and quality time. Today’s episode is moderated by Mash aka The SPEWgod Drip Drip, and we are discussing Words of Affirmation.
Words of affirmation are any spoken or written words that confirm, support, uplift, and empathize with another person in a positive manner. Affirming your partner with words of love and genuine gratitude. Some examples are saying words, I love you, I’m here for you, you’re doing a great job and you’re so intelligent. These affirming words are powerful and can often validate the feeling of the person who receives love this way… In short, if Words of Affirmation is your love language, it means what your partner has to say about you and to you speaks volumes.
You ever wonder if words of affirmation can be used against you, what’s the best affirmation you could receive/ give, or if words of affirmation are appropriate in the bedroom? Let’s talk this one out, pull up, tune in and join the “Words of Affirmation” discussion.

SR Love Languages: Physical Touch
Wednesday Jul 21, 2021
Wednesday Jul 21, 2021
Peace and blessings, Tribe! Welcome back to the Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, giving the real in a world of fake! In this week’s episode, we continue our SR Love Language Saga and discussion about, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, by Gary Chapman. In his book, the author explains how individuals generally express and experience love in five distinct ways: physical touch, receiving gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation, and quality time. Today Flash The Philosopher and Outspoken Introvert- Sly Boogie both moderate our discussion about physical touch.
Physical touch refers to expressing and receiving affection through touch, physical closeness, and other forms of a physical connection. Kissing, hugging, holding hands, and sex is all ways of showing love through the physical touch love language. Most specifically, having touch as a love language means that small physical gestures—such as having a partner put their arm around you in public or snuggle up close to you on the couch while watching TV together—matter a lot more to you than things like gifts or saying "I love you.”
Physical touch is obviously an awesome way to communicate and express love but can touch also be misinterpreted? Is it possible for the physical gesture of love to be received as a sexual advance? Can there be too much physical touch and is PDA acceptable? Let’s talk this one out, pull up, tune in and join the “Physical Touch” discussion.

SR Love Languages: Quality Time
Wednesday Jul 14, 2021
Wednesday Jul 14, 2021
Peace and blessings, Tribe! Welcome back to the Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, giving the real in a world of fake!
In this week’s episode, we continue our SR Love Language Saga and discussion about The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts, by Gary Chapman. In his book, the author explains how individuals generally express and experience love in five distinct ways: physical touch, receiving gifts, acts of service, words of affirmation, and quality time. Our very own Section 5 native, Lil Moe moderates today’s episode and we discuss Quality Time.
People who speak the love language of quality time want to be the object of their lover's undivided attention. They want to feel cherished and prioritized, and rather than receiving gifts, words, acts, or touch, they prefer to simply spend meaningful time together. Perhaps more than most, people who communicate in this love language never lose sight of the fact that time is a finite resource and that every minute is irreplaceable.
By effectively focusing exclusively on a partner who speaks "quality time", you’ll help them feel loved, respected, and appreciated, keeping their “love tank” full of fuel. Also, just because two people are in the same place together doesn’t mean they’re actually spending quality time with one another. Hence the “quality” component of this love language.
You ever wonder if there can be too much quality time, are you capable to spend quality time with someone you're attracted to without it becoming sexual, and can sex also be quality time? Let’s talk this one out, pull up, tune in and join the “Quality Time” discussion.

SR Love Languages: Acts of Service
Wednesday Jul 07, 2021
Wednesday Jul 07, 2021
Salutations, Tribe!!! It’s always good to see you, thanks for pulling up. Welcome, welcome, welcome to a very special series of Sophisticatedly Ratchet episodes. This month we present to the Tribe, The SR Love Language Saga!
In this lovely series of episodes, we will be discussing Gary Chapman’s book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love That Lasts. The tea on the 5 Love Languages is simple: different people with different personalities give and receive love in different ways. And by learning to recognize these preferences in yourself and in your partner, you can learn to identify the root of your beef, connect more on a deeper level, and truly begin to grow closer.
In the book, the author explains how individuals generally express and experience love in five distinct ways: acts of service, words of affirmation, physical touch, receiving gifts, and quality time. Today’s episode is moderated by Ice Queen- TJ, and we are acts of service. Acts of Service is a language that can best be described as doing something for your partner that you know they would like, such as filling up their gas, watering their plants, or cooking them a meal.
Now with that said, what’s an act of service that you would not accept? What is your preferred act of service and can begrudgingly performing a sexual act be considered an act of service? Let’s talk this one out, pull up, tune in and join the SR Love Language: Acts of Service” discussion.

Healthy Eating

Wednesday Jun 23, 2021
What up, Tribe?! Welcome back to another amazing episode of The Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, giving the real in a world of fake.
In today's episode, Shake leads the team in moderation, and we discuss our views on food and the pros and cons of eating healthy. By definition, a healthy diet is a diet that helps maintain or improve overall health, but here at the SR podcast, we see it differently. We each have different relationships with food, but we all agree good food is magical! It has the power to trigger memories and emotions, reminding us of holiday meals and good times spent with great people.
However, on the flipside - abusing food is a slippery slope because a lot of health-related issues stem from poor food choices. University of Alabama researcher's found data that confirmed southern diets are to be blamed for high rates of hypertension among Black Americans. Approximately 75 percent of black men and women develop high blood pressure by their mid-50s, compared with 55 percent of white men and 40 percent of white women of the same age. What it really came down to was the fact that while people of both races ate some amount of Southern-fried comfort food, African-Americans, on average, are eating much more of it — with the highest consumers eating something fried, overly salted, or doused in fatty dairy every day.
You ever wonder why it is so hard to make healthy food choices, why it is difficult for people to develop healthy eating habits or if you should judge people for eating fast food? Let’s talk this one out, pull up, tune in and join the “Healthy Eating” discussion.

Happy Juneteenth Dad(dy)!
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Wednesday Jun 16, 2021
Peace and salutations, SR Tribe! Welcome back to another fresh serving of The Sophisticatedly Ratchet Podcast, giving the real in a world of fake! We have an extra special episode for you, Tribe. In today’s episode, we are celebrating the memorial of Juneteenth, celebrating all the Fathers and fatherly figures for Father-day and the 26th annual birthday of our ICE QUEEN TJ!!!
Without a doubt, Juneteenth is one of the most significant days in history for all Blacks in American. In today’s episode, Mash, The SPEW God “drip drip” leads the team in moderation and educates the tribe on the history of slavery in America, and details the significance of this Juneteenth. As of this week, US President Joe Biden signed legislation establishing Juneteenth as a US federal holiday. However, in order to truly appreciate and celebrate the memorial of Juneteenth, it is important to put American history and its transgressions against Blacks into proper context. Juneteenth is historically known as Jubilee Day, Black Independence, and Emancipation Day, and this holiday commemorates the end of practiced slavery in America in 1865. It was on the morning of Monday, June 19, 1865, Union Major General Gordon Granger arrived on the island of Galveston, Texas to take command of the more than 2,000 federal troops and enforce the emancipation of its slaves and oversee a peaceful transition of power, additionally nullifying all laws passed within Texas during the war by Confederate lawmakers.
We also take time to reflect on the other Elder Gods of Sophisticatedly Ratchet, our Pops! Fathers Day is a celebration honoring the father of the family, as well as fatherhood, fatherly role models, and the influence of fathers in society. And since we gave so much love to Moms on Mother's day it wouldn't be right if we didn't show them love too! Join us as each SR member feels about their fathers, what qualities are necessary to be a good father, and share stories about their relationships with their pops. In this heartwarming episode, we figure out why dad always gets shitty gifts. If you’ve read this far you in the TRIBE and know the vibes, pull up, tune in and join us as we scream, “Happy Juneteeth Dad(dy)!”

Sly Boogie promotes awareness about the Tulsa Race Massacre and the Government's failure to make amends by distributing reparations, 100 years later. On 31 May 1921, a deputized mob of white Americans destroyed the affluent and predominantly black neighbourhood of Greenwood in Tulsa. The community - known by the moniker of "Black Wall Street" - was the country's wealthiest African-American neighbourhood until its many homes and businesses were burned down in the riot.
